Wow, if ever there was a time to live for bargains, these are the salad days. “Absolutely San Francisco” has issued a limited set of “Pinchit” tickets. 50% off the regular price. Don’t forget the PREMIUM seat with gift bag (a bottle of wine, some delicious TCHO chocolates, poster, CD and great coupons inside an “Absolutely San Francisco” logo bag) — you can always book through our regular ticket agent, Brown Paper Tickets. See you at the show!
For those of you who really, really, really want to be spontaneous, “Absolutely San Francisco” has issued a limited set of “GrouponNOW” tickets. It’s actually quite a cool application: you check the Groupon NOW application on your iPhone or Android, it shows you what deals are available near your location and you simply get that deal. We had our first redemptions last Saturday night. You can also go to groupon.com to check the deals. So far, doesn’t seem like a bad deal for those last few, last minute seats. Still, for those of you who want to be sure of a ticket — and maybe get the PREMIUM seat with gift bag — you can always book through our regular ticket agent, Brown Paper Tickets. See you at the show!
The excitement continues on Thursday, 6/2/2011, as the marvelous and energetic Mary Gibboney takes over as ‘Sunshine’ and her friends in Not Quite Opera’s open run of the one-woman musical comedy hit, “Absolutely San Francisco.” Enjoy a new twist on the characters, as well as some fresh and subtle updates to our San Francisco story! Mary’s performances begin with previews on Thursday and Friday, 6/2-3/11 at 8pm, and we head into our regular Summer schedule of Thursdays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm beginning 6/4/11. Come on down for the fun!
Well, this is it: The last week with Darlene Popovic as “Sunshine” and her friends in “Absolutely San Francisco.” Darlene has been performing to rave reviews in the original San Francisco musical comedy since March 11, 2011. We’re very sad to see her move on. But we’re always hoping that she’ll come back to us some day. In the meantime, get your chance to see her perform on Sunday, May 22 at 2pm, Thursday, May 26 at 8pm, Saturday, May 28 at 8pm and her final show, Sunday, May 29 at 3pm. Right here in The Alcove Theater, 414 Mason Street, San Francisco.
Well, time flies when you’re having fun! Darlene Popovic’s fantastic 12-week run as Sunshine and her friends comes to an end on Sunday 5/29, when East Bay favorite, Mary Gibboney, takes over for awhile, followed by our original Sunshine, Karen Hirst, later this summer. Darlene continues to deliver a tour-de-force one-woman performance week after week in the show! Talent like hers is in great demand, and a one-woman musical is a lot of weight to carry, so we our plan is to have our Sunshine’s take on the job in rotation — it gives all our marvelous women a chance to recharge, and gives our guests a fun chance to come on by again and maybe see what new twists can come to the show. So we will bid “adieu” to her for awhile as she spices up a few more fun shows around the bay. Don’t miss your chance to see Darlene in Absolutely San Francisco this season!
We really enjoyed this recent comment on our guest book from Marie and Erik W. of Portland, OR: “That sums up our last 3 days!!!” Having had a little conversation with them after the show, we were happy to hear that “AbSan” gives our guests the fun, romantic and insightful glimpse into the City by the Bay we aim for — and maybe ties a few loose ends, too!
Just a quick note of apology for our web site outage on Tuesday, May 3. It turns out that some hacker had discovered a way to set a time released script into our pages and Google set a warning on our site. As far as we can tell, no harm was done — except to our site. Our Webmaster set it right and closed the holes. But, our business isn’t internet, it’s good old-fashioned San Francisco musical theater, so come on down, shut off the cell phone, disconnect from the web, have a glass of wine on us, laugh, cry and let the music carry you away. Thanks again for your support.
Like they always say: “There’s nothing like a little one-woman, san francisco musical comedy for Mother’s Day…” Well, maybe they don’t say that, but, heck we just did. Come on down and bring Mom for a lovely matinee performance. We just might surprise the Moms in the audience with a little extra gift!
We’re very happy to announce that our own Darlene Popovic will be interviewed this Saturday morning during the bottom half of the 9am KRON-4 news cast with Jan Wahl. Turn on, tune in and enjoy! Congratulations all around.
